Good budget unit, great customer service!

I was given a TM-160 in February this year for my birthday. For a $350 thermal camera? You're getting a good deal. I can easily detect other people out to 100-150yds in cold weather and 75-100 in warmer weather. The resolution isn't fantastic but is still very usable at short range. Of course, some sacrifices have to be made for a budget thermal unit so I can give that a pass. The tripod mount somehow broke one night and much to my surprise, it totaled the scope. I sent in an RMA about one month ago, and the engineers and returns team were able to replace the whole unit at no cost to me. I don't usually write reviews, but the customer service when my device did fail was phenomenal and I felt the need to leave a review. If you keep the limitations of the lower resolution and shorter range in mind and have realistic expectations for a $350 camera? I think anyone who's interested in getting into thermal imaging but doesn't want to drop $750-$1000+ will be quite pleased with the results.

Wicked Cool Thermal

I tried gen 1 NVG, Ive tried digital night vision as well
each has its own issues
this is by far the best available option
no more IR emitters to worry about or drag alone

sadly the 160x120 is a low resolution for maybe 100yards max
better at under 50 yards

I wish there was a green mode to simulate NVG
I find that when I remove my eye from the monocular I lose all natural night vision ability since my eye was over powered by the screen

my fears are replacing the battery when it finally goes, how long will agm provide support is the real question to how well of a value this thermal is

As Advertised

I wanted a small inexpensive thermal unit I could use to identify heat signatures. I didn't need to be able to identify what the heat signature was. I only need to know if there is an animal out there. I then switch over to my ATN night vision scope mounted on a 5.56 AR-15. The NV scope and the rifle weigh about 13lbs. That is too much weight to scan the countryside. The info about the unit is up front about the fact that this is a short range thermal unit. I am not disappointed. I can see the heat signature of deer out to about 300yds. I can see a coyote out to about 200yds. Of course I can't tell what those heat signatures are, but I can identify them with the night vision. This unit fit perfectly with what I was looking for. Battery life has been good. It's easy to hold. The menus are intuitive. The software to view on my smart phone works as it should, The Manual is easy to understand. I would buy this unit again.

Great Value For Relatively Low Cost

Effective and good enough visual output. Just remember to use the little knob on the side to focus the picture. I use this for acquiring movement when I'm feral hog hunting at night with a rifle mounted thermal night vision scope (DS Arms FAL .308 with a thermal night vision scope... Very heavy setup.). It's a lot easier to handle this light monocular to detect movement and when you do, switch over to your rifle with a thermal or other night vision scope that has better resolution and a reticle. This makes hunting feral hogs at night much easier. I wish I had found it sooner! Great product and great price. Can't go wrong. Read the directions and you won't have any trouble and you won't be disappointed as long as you don't expect it to work like a $2,000 unit. Acquire movement. Then switch to main machinery!

Not worth it

The thermal accuity is great, but you cant make out anything past 30 yards. Its super blurry, if i had to buy it again i wouldnt id save my money and go with a more expensive one that you can identify stuff at 100 yards or more

Very cool device! I chose a model for a gift so that it was good quality and relatively inexpensive in terms of price. I gave a thermal imaging camera as a gift and now I bought the same one.

I had heard negative thoughts on cheaper handheld thermal, and glad I purchased for myself. Easily can identify out to 250yd, I’ll be buying another!
