You buy the equipment for hunting. You choose what will be for you, not only comfortable and comfortable to use, but also safe. And this criterion is not unimportant. If in the past one of the most detrimental factors to the health of our eyes was poor lighting, the need to work in the dark constantly, but now it has been replaced by other devices, which cope with this task no worse. And based on this, we understand how important it is to avoid such traps. But let's assume that you have decided to go on a night hunt, which implies the need for special equipment: night vision goggles, sights, thermal imagers. And a pretty logical question that may arise in this case: how do all these devices affect our vision, and are they dangerous for human eyes.
And now, let's look at them in order.
Before answering that question, let's quickly run through the main factors that make night vision goggles work. The first thing we would like to clarify is that we can divide them into monoculars and goggles. The former is designed for you to watch with one eye, the latter with two eyes. For example, they can't work in total darkness, unlike a thermal imager. They still need a light source from the moon and stars shining and reflecting light off the surface of objects. And you might have noticed in military or documentary films that the color rendering of the picture has exactly green shades. Why is this the case? There are several reasons for this. Invented in repeated experiments, this color increases the ability to see the details of particular objects much clearer. Secondly, the human eye distinguishes more shades of green than any other. And the reason we are most interested in right now is that our eyes are much less tired of looking at a picture of green than at a contrasting white and black.
So, considering the above factors, we can come to the following conclusion. Glasses and monoculars of this type have no detrimental effect on your eyes. But, of course, if we are talking about color, you see through the lens. So for that, we can say a special thank you to the fathers-creators, who try to make such devices as comfortable and safe as possible for you to use.
There will always be reasons to be dissatisfied with a particular device despite this comforting and pleasant factor. When using any device, we always look at everything comprehensively. The convenience of wearing, the difficulty of operation, the system of the technique itself in general, etc. Therefore, what other complaints can arise when using optics of this type?
The first thing that comes to mind is their inability to see in absolute darkness. If the situation will have just such conditions, it is not pleasant. Suppose that you are in a dense forest and through the bushes does not pass a single ray of already bright light. You will have to understand in the darkness what and where it is. Here, the task will be to get out in one piece and undamaged and not shoot a game or track the enemy. If an experienced hunter, when managing his finances, can still think about the fact that it is better to pay a little more money, choose a more expensive device, and pay attention to thermal imaging cameras. And if we are talking about price, then the following reason for dissatisfaction can be deduced, albeit indirectly. Not awful, but it's still good in functionality in its optical night vision devices segment because its mechanical component is not very light devices. And of course, in order not to carry them all the time in your hands, because there is always something to do, such equipment is hooked on a helmet. And it means that it's as if you have a piece of boulder attached to your head and made to run with it, which is always hanging over to one side. If already, as we found out, your eyes don't get tired while using this device, the same can't be said for your neck. And it would help if you jumped over potholes with special care.
But, talking about the benefits of green for your eyes, it is worth mentioning and emphasizing again that the reflection of natural light for monoculars and optics is much more favorable. But if you inadvertently turn your head or bump into a bright artificial light source, your eyes will experience a slight and unpleasant shock from such a sharp and bright flash. After all, the light adds brightness, and you and I understand that the more brilliant the color, the more it tires our eyesight. So, if you're basically in the summer in the bright sun, where everything around you is so bright, you also feel fatigued and pressure on your eyesight. And going into the shade, you wait until your biological apparatus also brings its focus and makes all the necessary natural adjustments. I think this analogy is understandable.
It's also worth mentioning that when you look with your two eyes, your field of view is much broader than when you use a monocular and feel like Quasimodo with a squinted regard all the time. And if we talk about glasses, the frame of your optics also diminishes your ability to see what is going on around you with the broadest possible resolution.
And the last thing I would like to mention is the autonomy of this device. It eats up quite a bit of battery power. That's why in addition to the fact that you take your supplies for your feeding, you need to save space to "power" your equipment.
